1.After a 300 million yuan renovation project, Lidai Diwang Miao, or the Imperial Temple of Emperors of Successive Dynasties, was reopened to the public last weekend.
Originally constructed about 470 years ago, during the reign of Emperor Jiajing of the Ming Dynasty, the temple was used by emperors of both the Ming and Qing to offer sacrifices to their ancestors.
It underwent two periods of renovation in the Qing Dynasty, during the reigns of emperors Yongzheng and Qianlong. From 1929 until early 2000, it was part of Beijing No. 159 Middle School.
The temple's Jingdechongsheng Hall contains stone tablets memorializing 188 Chinese emperors. According to Xi Wei, an official from the Xicheng District government present at the re-opening of the temple, jinzhuan bricks were made in Yuyao, Suzhou, specially for imperial use.

2. For any Englishman, there can never be any discussion as to who is the world's greatest writer. Only one name can possibly suggest itself to him:that of William Shakespeare.
Every Englishman has some knowledge of his work. All of us use words and phrases from Shakespeare's writings that have become a part of the English-speaking people.
Shakespeare, more perhaps than any other writer, made full use of the English language. Most of us use about five thousand words in our normal employment of English; Shakespeare in his works used about twenty-five thousand!
There is probably no better way for a foreigner (or an Englishman!) to appreciate the richness and variety of the English language than by studying the various ways in which Shakespeare uses it. Such a study is well worth the effort (it is not, of course, recommended to beginners), even though some aspects of English usage, and the meaning of many words, have changed since Shakespeare's day.
1).From the first two sentences of the passage we can conclude that ________.
A. Shakespeare is regarded as the greatest writer

二、阅读理解(共2道试题,共30分。)
1.The growth of population during the past few centuries is no proof that population will continue to grow straight upward toward infinity and doom. On the contrary, demographic history offers evidence that population growth has not been at all constant. According to paleo-ecologist Edward Deevey, the past million years show three momentous changes. The first, a rapid increase in population around one million B.C., followed the innovations of tool-making and tool-using. But when the new power from the use of tools had been exploited, the rate of world population growth fell and became almost stable.
The next rapid jump in population started perhaps 10,000 years ago, when men began to keep herds, plow and plant the earth. Once again when initial productivity gains had been absorbed, the rate of population growth abated.
These two episodes suggest that the third great change, the present rapid growth, which began in the West between 250 and 350 years ago, may also slow down when, or if technology begins to yield fewer innovations. Of course, the current knowledge revolution may continue without foreseeable end. Either way contrary to popular belief in constant geometric growth-population can be expected in the long run to adjust to productivity.
1). Which of the following is NOT TRUE according to the passage
A. Increase in population is related to productivity.

2. From the outset(开始), railroad and canals were bitter competitors(激烈竞争者). For a time the Chesapeake and Ohio Canal Company blocked the advance of the Baltimore and Ohio Railroad through the narrow gorge(峡谷) of the upper Potomac, and the State of New York prohibited railroads from hauling freight in competition with the Erie Canal and its branches. These restrictions(限制) and the slow pace of railroad building meant that canals carried twice as much tonnage as railroads even as late as 1852. But railroads had the advantage of speed and year-round operation (canals closed down for the winter freeze) and could be located almost anywhere, regardless of terrain(地形) and the availability of water. These assets, combined with a slight price advantage, produced a victory for railroads during the 1850's. By the end of the decade, they took most of the nation's passenger traffic and carried more freight than the canals.
1).1. What drawbacks were there to the introduction of railroads in North America
A. The Chesapeake and Ohio canals were more advanced than the railroads.
